8 Weeks - 1st Doctor's Appointment

I had my first doctor's appointment last Monday. It went really well. I see a midwife. Her name is Macie. She's very nice. I never have to wait long at my appointments and everyone there is really nice and aware of who you are and remembering faces. First they checked my blood pressure and weighed me (I'm rather sad knowing the scale will only go up from here). Then I had an ultrasound in which I saw what looked like a white fuzzy bean. Right there I saw a little flutter, just pumping away was the baby's heartbeat. It's weird to think that something that small and not fully developed has a heartbeat! And they say that a baby isn't a life until it's born?! Anyway, as I was watching the screen, the midwife pushed a button and on the screen it showed the heartrate. It was really fast. Then sound! I heard the heartbeat! This doesn't make any sense to me because I've never heard of being able to hear the heartbeat this early, especially on an ultrasound screen. I guess technology has changed in the last 5 years since I had Abby! I also got what felt like a half-gallon of blood sucked out of me and the woman that pokes the needle isn't very gentle about it :) This was to check for iron, blood type, and a bunch of other stuff I'm not sure of. Then I got sent home with a bag of baby magazines and some lotion, and even a magazine for grandparents that I guess I'm supposed to give to the grandparents. Then they scheduled my 20 week ultrasound where I can find out if this Bean is a girl or boy. That appointment is May 2nd at 8:30, so be up early that day to hear the news! (I have a strong suspicion that this little stinker is a boy).
